Abstract
This paper addressed the most prominent milestones of the Industrial Sector career in Libya since the last four decades. This career, that reflects the government policies that this sector has undergone and that have been characterized by growth and positivity in some periods, was illustrated by the volume of employment and the ratios of the contribution to the local product and its revenues directed to the public treasury and its contribution to the provision of building materials for the Man-made River and others. However, the sector retreated from growth in other periods due to many problems related to the volume of investments or legal, financial, administrative and other procedures. In addition, the paper reviewed the results of the evaluation conducted on factories and companies in the public sector and the recommendations thereon, through the resolution of the General People's Committee no. (72) of the year (2002) to dissolve the General Authority for Industrialization and refer its competencies to the Committees of Industry and Minerals of the districts, which is an important turning point in the process of industrialization in Libya, and the negative consequences of this decision represented in the suspension of many establishments as a result of the problems they were exposed to. Furthermore, the paper listed some of the plans and proposals submitted by the authorities responsible for managing this sector. These proposals are related to the prospects for future industries in Libya and the economic and social development plan for the period of (2001-2005), as well as the production transformation plan for the same period. With regard to industrial development of the regions, the Industrial Research Center submitted a plan for each region separately for the period of (2008 - 2012).
